Whether you want a family holiday or a weekend getaway for grown-ups, we have special offers and insider advice to make great savings
These lesser-known routes to travel bargains will save you even more on top of your discounts with our travel partners.
Visit Butlin’s with pre-schoolers
If your children are under school age, take advantage of some great offers from family favourite Butlin’s. It’s ‘Just for Tots’ breaks run during term time and are designed especially for little ones. There’s a Teletubbies Big Play Date, a range of shows from Justin Fletcher (the children’s presenter behind Mr Tumble) to Butlin’s own Billy and Bonnie, early meal times and bedtime stories – and on selected breaks under-fives eat free. Butlin’s runs offers on these breaks throughout the year.
Inclusive breaks at Shearings
Shearings has great value ‘Bay Inclusive’ breaks at its portfolio of Bay Hotels, so alongside all the usual inclusions such as coach travel, half-board accommodation and excursions, you’ll also get four drinks vouchers per person, per night, and entertainment every evening, as well as live entertainment on one night. While most only offer the inclusive deals in the winter, three of them – Bay Beresford at Newquay, Bay Tor Park at Torquay and Bay Grand at Ilfracombe – offer the inclusive package all year round.
Payday deals from Super Break
Super Break runs monthly payday sales with discounts on its wide selection of experiences and short breaks around the UK. “These deals only run for a limited period of time, so our advice would be to sign up to the Super Break newsletter so that you are alerted as soon as the new sales are made live,” says Super Break’s Katherine Scott.
Try an alternative location for discounts
To get the best deals on self-catering holiday cottages, especially in the peak season, avoid traditional hotspots and look for better value alternatives. That’s the advice from cottages.com’s Tori Kirwan-Taylor, who explains: “For example, the average price of a week-long break in the Cotswolds during the peak period is lower than other popular national parks such as the Lake District or the Norfolk Broads. Similarly, the South West is a popular destination for holidaymakers all year round, but the average price for a holiday in Somerset is lower than that in Cornwall, Devon and Dorset, so is a great way to experience the South West on a smaller budget.”
Grab a bargain holiday in the north
Most Brits head south for the summer, but head north and you’ll generally find more late availability and cheaper prices. Haven has holiday parks across the whole of the UK, including Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Northumberland, and often runs special offers. Add those to your discount and you’ll have more money to spend on ice creams.
Escape without the kids in school holidays
Warner Leisure Hotels is adults only, so you’ll find that prices don’t fluctuate wildly when the school holidays start. In fact, prices can even dip slightly in August compared to the previous months. There are also weekly last-minute deals posted on the Warner website, with midweek and weekend breaks available. Once you’ve booked, there’s very little extra to budget for: all breaks include accommodation, breakfast, three-course evening meals, activities – from archery and croquet to aqua aerobics and Nordic walking – and nightly entertainment.
Save on a holiday with friends or family
Going on holiday with a group of friends or with extended family can often bring the overall price down. Forest Holidays caters well for groups, thanks to large cabins – some sleeping up to ten people – with spacious open-plan living areas, and the option to book accommodation close together. It has a dedicated groups team to help you create an amazing break, whatever the occasion. The forest views help your group to get back to nature and dream big.
Hunt for deals on social media
Keep an eye on Twitter, Facebook and other social media, which is often used to share last-minute travel deals and special offers. For example, back in December Hoseasons lodges, cottages, cabins and holiday parks had a special deal on summer breaks promoted on Twitter, and more recently offered up to 40 per cent off at one of its parks. If you’re not social media savvy, perhaps there’s a teenager in the family who is?
Ask the travel experts at Barrhead Travel
Getting the best holiday deal is part of the daily routine for the experts at Barrhead Travel, the independent agency that’s been helping people plan their holidays for over 40 years. These in-the-know agents are often the first to hear about late deals, so it could pay to pop in to one of their shops or give them a call and take advantage of their insider knowledge.
Get away to Whitemead
At Whitemead Forest Park in the Forest of Dean you can save up to 20% as a member as well as take advantage of late-availability offers. Choose from woodland lodges, log cabins and forest apartments, or a glamping pod, or caravan or camping pitch.
